Customs officers seized 5 child monkeys at a checkpoint in northern Chile close to Bolivia, authorities mentioned on Wednesday. The animals had been discovered hungry and dehydrated in a backpack. One monkey died.
“This truck had its driver and a companion. When the companion received off the truck for inspection, he prevented being inspected,” Cristian Molina Silva, the regional director of Tarapaca Customs, mentioned.
“The inspectors proceeded to look at a backpack that he was carrying. And inside that backpack, we discovered 5 Bolivian squirrel-type monkeys,” Silva mentioned, including that the person was planning on promoting the tiny monkeys.
Authorities arrested the person, and the monkeys had been handed to the Agricultural and Livestock Service.
Bolivian squirrel monkeys
